Jan runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs.

Your Mac needs:

  • Operating System: MacOSX 13.6 or higher
  • Memory:
    • 8GB ā†’ up to 3B parameter models
    • 16GB ā†’ up to 7B parameter models
    • 32GB ā†’ up to 13B parameter models
  • Storage: 10GB+ free space

Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3)

  • Metal acceleration enabled by default
  • GPU-accelerated processing

Intel-based Mac

  • CPU processing only

Install Jan

Installation steps:

Step 1: Download Application

Select version:

Get Jan from here:

Step 2: Install Application

Section titled ā€œStep 2: Install Applicationā€
  1. Open the Jan installer (.dmg file)
  2. Drag Jan to Applications
  3. Wait a moment
  4. Launch Jan

Jan Data Folder

Default location:

Terminal window
# Default installation directory
~/Library/Application\ Support/Jan/data

Uninstall Jan

Step 1: Remove Application

Section titled ā€œStep 1: Remove Applicationā€
  1. Close Jan if itā€™s running
  2. Open Finder
  3. Go to Applications
  4. Find Jan
  5. Pick your removal method:
  • Drag to Trash
  • Right-click ā†’ Move to Trash
  • Command-Delete

Step 2: Clean Up Data (Optional)

Section titled ā€œStep 2: Clean Up Data (Optional)ā€

Run this in Terminal to remove all data:
